We feature a few of our success case studies below!

Migraine and High Blood Pressure

She was suffering from chronic migraines since her childhood and it was getting worse despite her continued prescribed medications. Her immune system was getting weak and she also developed high blood pressure and gouty arthritis affecting fingers, heels and knees. The migraine attack was random often starting from her back of neck and spreading towards top of the head with strong pulsation and vomiting.

Diagnosis: Her signs and symptoms mainly indicated major Liver qi stagnation with toxicity and heat combined affecting channels leading to the head. Her gout situation also suggested toxicity of kidney affecting the liver which is already weakened by the long history of many chemical medications.

Treatment: with acupuncture, focus was made to unblocking the Liver channel and relieving the pain and preventing the random attacks of migraine. Toxicity with heat that can cause inflammatory conditions was mainly treated with herbal formulas. Her condition became more stable in about three months.

Sinusitis and Asthma

She was having chronic sinusitis for about 20 years and getting worse last two years and not responding to antibiotic prescriptions, only giving more side effects such as low energy and stomach pains. Her sinus had sticky brown mucus draining towards pharynx and triggering earache and upper tooth ache. This condition also induced violent coughing and asthmatic wheezing. She was also complaining of stomach acid and irritable bowel syndrome.

Diagnosis: Sinus in TCM is related with lung in terms of internal organ, with stomach channel in terms of acupuncture channel theory. Lung is related with liver horizontally, with stomach vertically. Her case was complicated with liver condition affecting lung, stomach affecting sinus and intestines.

Treatment: She was treated by acupuncture and moxa for the channel treatment clearing sinus and lung. With herbal formula, liver was detoxed and harmonized with stomach and intestine. She was treated for about three months with much improvement with following few months for the maintenance.

Menopausal (PMS) and Hypo-thyroid

She was experiencing PMS , post menopausal syndrome, having period once or twice a year with difficulties of sleep, feeling sad and depressed and chronically fatigued. She didn’t complain of hot flashes or night sweats as most menopausal ladies commonly have. She was diagnosed with low thyroid condition three months ago from blood test – hypothyroid – and her hands, feet and body was prone to be cold, especially at night. Her hair was getting thinner and falling more than usual. Her joints all over became stiffer or feel like “frozen”. She often had abdominal pain when stomach was empty with mild heart burn. She was relying on supplements, sleeping pills and some natural therapies which didn’t improve her conditions, and preferred to overcome her conditions without relying on chemical pills which she might carry to the grave.

Diagnosis: In TCM, aging process is closely related with kidney, and her menopausal and thyroid condition pointed to “Deficiency of essence (more like hormonal concept in western medicine), yin and yang of Kidney” – three deficiencies of kidney functions plus a deficiency of pancreas.

Treatment: She was treated about 6 weeks externally with acupuncture, internally with herbal formulas that mainly tonified kidney. After her overall conditions have well improved, she had another blood test in two months and thyroid level returned normal.

Breast Cancer

Her bi-annual mammogram test showed a tumor on her right breast about the size of 1 to 1.5cm. Ensuing ultrasound and MRI showed the tumor was of malignant type. To confirm, biopsy was tried with needling but couldn’t reach the tumor as it was very near to the lung and out of concern of metastasis (spreading) of cancer cells. She was given three more MRI’s , mammograms and ultrasounds for the next 4 months, mainly observing the tumor. By the time, she came to my clinic, she was stressed and emotionally exhausted with status-quo situation.

Diagnosis: she was easily stressed with near menopausal irregular, heavy or scanty periods, lower back pain and lower abdominal pain and coldness. Her pulse was “wiry” which was typical of Liver Qi stagnation which often affects the circulation of Qi and blood around breast in women.

Treatment: She was mainly treated for a month with herbal formulas that releases Liver qi, softening the tumor and detoxing the breast. She was not satisfied with the quality of medical services and equipments used in Canadian hospitals, and decided to go overseas on her cost to confirm the progress and future surgical intervention, if needed. In overseas, she tried 2 MRI’s of the latest technology and one hi-tech ultrasound (only three machines available in the world at that time) which can detect micro level of cancer cells. No tests conducted in two prominent breast specialist hospitals showed any tumor or malignant cells. She is still healthy with no signs of tumor, four years afterwards.

Lower back bent forward with pain and stiffness

Her lower back was bent forward and couldn’t straighten up for a month and half with pain and tightness. By the time she came to my clinic, she had already tried prescribed muscle relaxants, massage, chiropractic and physiotherapies. She was tall and energetic with no major health problems and she wanted to try acupuncture no one ever recommended.

Diagnosis: Although she was a healthy senior, her pulse and tongue suggested stagnation of Liver qi with deficiency of blood, which can affect her lower back condition.

Treatment: only three to four acupuncture points were used on her hands, feet and knee area with moxa on the back. She walked out of my clinic with her back straight up and later asked her family doctor to refer and recommend acupuncture first. She visited just one more time for check-up and maintenance.

Knee: swollen, painful and can’t bend backward

Two weeks ago, she heard a cracking sound on her left knee joint while she was kneeling down to pick up something and the knee was “stuck”, couldn’t flex backwards with swelling and deep sore pain. Her X-ray showed osteo-arthritic degeneration with fluid filling up the knee joint. She was prescribed couple of medicines by her G.P. but without improvements. Her affected left knee was about 30% swollen compared to the right side and she had a history of knee injury on the left twenty years ago. She was also having chronic stomach indigestion with puffy face and eyes. She also felt irregular heart fibrillations often in last three months.

Diagnosis: She was gaining weights by about 20 lbs in one year even though she is not eating much due to her indigestion and poor appetite. This core of this case was Deficiency of pancreas qi affecting the fluid metabolism followed by kidney which controls fluid and bone tissues as well.

Treatment: after one acupuncture session, she was able to bend the knee and walk comfortably. The swelling was reduced to about 10% in a week of acupuncture and herbal formulas that promoted pancreas channel and fluid metabolism. She also noted she lost about 5 lbs as a bonus in a week.

Repeated miscarriages & low sperm quality

She was trying to conceive for three years and had a number of miscarriages within 3 weeks of pregnancies. She also tried IVF but had blood spotting in a week of egg transfer before she came to my clinic. She was having a borderline low thyroid condition, frequent indigestion, fatigue, muscle tightness, cold hands, feet and body. Her period color was very dark with large blood clots. Her husband showed very poor quality of sperm in terms of mobility, morphology and count.

Diagnosis: Her case was what TCM call “Coldness congealing the uterus” as evidenced by the cold characteristics of her system which is affecting the metabolism her reproductive system. Her husband’s case was Kidney essence and qi deficiency.

Treatment: The husband and wife was both treated and prepared for about two months before they went for another IVF trial with my support alongside. They later produced beautiful twin boys.

Neck tilted with strong pain near scapula

He walked into my clinic with neck tilted towards left with strong pain on right neck and scapula area. One day ago, there was a popping sound near scapula when he was lifting a heavy box and which resulted in tilted neck with strong pain. Upon examination, there was long stretch of dry muscle knots extending from the top of neck towards the medial area of scapula.

Diagnosis: Internal tear of tendon connecting neck and scapula, blood stasis in the channel leading to blood and fluid deficiency in the muscle and tendon tissues leading to the formation of dry knots.

Treatment: After just one session of acupuncture with cupping and tapping technique, he was able to move and straighten the neck. He didn’t feel more treatments needed next day, and I recommended having herbal formulas that nourishes blood and fluid circulation to muscle tissues for the prevention of future recurrences.

Blocked fallopian tube

Ten years after the first delivery, she was not able to conceive and found out the left fallopian tube was twisted and blocked. Although, the right side tube was unaffected, she couldn’t conceive for few years. She was scheduled to have a surgery in few days when she came for second opinion on the risk of leaving scars on the tube. She was about 10 pounds underweight, amount of period was thin and pale. She was prone to be stressful, indigestive and chronically fatigued. Her hands and feet were cold side and had more tendency to prefer warmth.

Diagnosis: Blood deficiency of Liver affecting the Liver channel on the Uterus with Yin and Essence deficiency of Kidney that is responsible nourishing the ovary.

Treatment: In the first 2 months, acupuncture, moxa heating and cupping was used mainly to unblock and release the tube. Herbal formulas was introduced later for both tonifying the Liver and nourishing the Kidney. She was able to be pregnant in about 6 months and later produced a girl baby.

Ten times of IUI failure

She was trying to conceive last four years out of her eight years of marriage. By the time she visited my clinic, she already tried IUI (Intra Uterine Injection) 10 times in a IVF clinic as there was nothing negative about her reproductive system and function, other than the borderline level of her husband’s morphological situation of the sperm test. From my observation, her history of endometriosis with surgery, dark color and abundance of blackish clots on her periods showed high level of blood stagnation on the lining of uterus. She was also complaining of chronic fatigue, gaining weights, thirst, frequent urination and tight shoulder. The couple’s financial situation was straining but they decided to try IVF just once with my intervention on the side.

Diagnosis: This was a clear case of, so called, “accumulation of blood in the uterus” and the falling qi of small intestine compressing and affecting the pelvis and reproductive system.

Treatment: She was treated with acupuncture and herbal formulas in accordance with her IVF schedule Lupron injection, egg retrieval, transfer, and so forth. The husband was also treated with a Kidney tonic formula strengthening all aspects of sperm quality. She got pregnant in just about one month of my treatment and, one and the last IVF procedure which paralleled concurrently. By the time I saw her last time, she was into about 6 months of healthy pregnancy and no other specific complaints.

Unexplained infertility, five times of IVF failure

She was trying to conceive naturally for more than five years as all the tests such as FSH were normal, but to no avail. She also tried Clomid ovulation stimulating therapy for six months. She finally chose to have IVF treatments for another two years which ended up with either no fertilization or miscarriages within few weeks of egg transfer. By the time she came to my clinic, she had gone through five IVF treatments which cost her almost a fortune of a luxury Mercedes. She was about 20 lbs obese than normal, had profuse discharges, puffy face and limbs. Tongue was pale and swollen and the pulse was soft and weak.

Diagnosis: Her case was very characteristic of dampness (fluid congestion) affecting the uterus with low level of Pancreas Qi.

Treatment: She was treated with acupuncture, moxa heating and herbal formulas, first to remove the accumulated dampness, reinforcing the pancreas metabolism and then tonifying the conception related channel and ovaries. She had about 3 months of treatment before pregnancy was confirmed. She produced a healthy boy.
